Download Your Registration Certificate from the USPTO

With the transition to electronic registration certificates on May 24, 2022, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) no longer issues paper copies of trademark registration certificates by default. Instead, the USPTO will issue these certificates electronically, complete with an electronic signature of the Director and a digital gold seal. This not only helps authenticate the registration, but also verifies that the documents have not been altered.

The USPTO uploads these electronic certificates to the Trademark Status and Document Retrieval (TSDR) system and, upon issuance, emails a link to the certificate to the trademark owner and all associated email addresses.

Trademark owners can view, download, and print a complete copy of their registration certificate at any time, free of charge. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the TSDR system.

  2. Enter your trademark registration or application number.

  3. Click "Search."

  4. When TSDR returns your trademark registration record, click on the "Documents" tab.

  5. Navigate to the "Registration Certificate" link.

  6. When the TSDR Case Viewer loads, you can click the blue "Download PDF" button at the top right hand corner of the page to download.

How to Request a Paper Presentation Copy of the Registration

Although the USPTO no longer mails paper certificates of registration, trademark owners may order printed copies known as "presentation copies. These are single-sided paper copies suitable for display and framing. Presentation copies have a gold foil seal and show the owner, bibliographic information, mark, and classes of goods or services. However, they do not list the goods and services. It's important to note that presentation copies are not registration certificates or certified copies of the trademark registration.

You may order your paper copy by using the the Order Trademark Presentation Copy of Registration Certificate form.
